We're so excited to announce that we have collaborated with the one and only Jennae Cecelia! We've been following Jennae on Instagram for months now and not only do we fall in love with her words but, also her gorgeous theme! If you haven't seen her page yet, we highly recommend you check it out! It draws you in and is very pleasing to the eye.
So after receiving multiple emails and DM's about how to build themes on Instagram, we knew of the perfect person to collaborate with to answer all your questions and teach you a new course all about themes!
Here is our interview with Jennae:
When did you start writing poetry?
I started writing poetry in high school, but I never really thought of it as poetry until later when I was two years into college. For the most part, I just wanted to express my thoughts in an artistic way. I have always enjoyed putting pen to paper and letting my thoughts bleed onto the pages. By my last year of college is when I decided to start composing my first poetry book called, Bright Minds Empty Souls.
Why did you decide to start sharing your words on Instagram?
At the end of 2015 I transitioned my Instagram account to being mostly about my writing instead of random photos. I wanted to share my words with other people with the hope they would find comfort in my thoughts. I also wanted to have some momentum built up for the release of my first book.
Your page is beautiful! How did you come up with your theme?
Thank you! I really like vintage style photos. I love earthy tones and mustard yellow. I just stick with my color pattern and transition the type of photo I am posting so that it is consistent but not over saturated with one type of post.
Why is building a theme on Instagram so important?
Building a theme on your Instagram is like displaying a portfolio. You want to show a mix of all you can do and have talent in while still making sure that the content is consistent in looking like it came from the same person. If you constantly change your theme it will start to look like many different people are running the account. Stick with the presets you are using on your photos and the color palette that fits in with the rest of your photos. People are also more likely to follow and engage with accounts that have a theme. Consistency is huge!
What advice would you give to other poets that are wanting to start a theme of their own?
Make sure your theme reflects you! Use colors you like and backdrops you find beautiful. Be authentic to your style. It will be so much easier to stick to your theme if you are posting the way you want to present your poems. Some poets like using more neutral colors because they feel the post will be shared more. However, I enjoy mustard yellow and burnt oranges more so than neutral colors, so I include those. And guess what? It doesn’t affect people sharing it because it is consistent to me.
What will we learn in your upcoming course?
In my upcoming course you will be learning how to create a theme that not only will get you more followers and engagement, but more sales of your books as well. I will be teaching you my Five Photo Method, which consists of how I have created a theme that is consistent but not overloading one style of posting.
Where can we find you and your books?
I am always hanging out on Instagram @JennaeCecelia but I also can be reached by email at JennaeCecelia@gmail.com or you can find all of my social media on my website www.jennaececelia.com. All of my books are available for purchase here on Amazon.
